Maritime Media http://maritimemedia.eu Providing media exposure for the marine industry posterous.com Sun, 05 Sep 2010 09:26:00 -0700 YouTube Goes Bigger but Stays Shorter http://maritimemedia.eu/youtube-goes-bigger-but-stays-shorter http://maritimemedia.eu/youtube-goes-bigger-but-stays-shorter

Last month, YouTube announced it now supports original video resolution from 360p all the way up to 4K.  That means even videos shot in sizes intended to be displayed on 25-foot screens can be uploaded to YouTube.

This was an exciting announcement in terms of what could be coming for online video in the future.  However, many people are wondering how far away that future actually is.  Today, practically no one can view 4k videos over standard broadband connections, and it’s fairly safe to say that the vast majority of people around the world don’t have 25-foot screens to view them on.

This has been a hot topic across the Web over the past few weeks.  Other people have been quick to point out that the ability to upload 4k video isn’t that exciting given the fact that YouTube only just recently (a few weeks after the 4k announcement) boosted the length of videos that can be uploaded to YouTube to 15 minutes.

Regardless of these limitations, it’s still interesting to ponder what might be coming for online video in 5 or 10 years.  I think it’s safe to say that it won’t look the same as it does today.  The demand is too high and new technology to enable better viewing is constantly launching.

It’s doubtful that the first use of the 4k upload ability in YouTube will find favor with the broad YouTube publishing audience, but I’m sure there is a niche out there that will find a use for it.  Or perhaps there is already a specific publisher or organization who has their eyes on the feature and might even get special privileges to increase the 15-minute upload limit.  Of course, I’m just speculating.

What do you think the new 4k feature means for online video publishing and viewing in the short-term? Long-term?  Leave a comment and share your thoughts.

You can check out some of the videos uploaded in 4k format in this YouTube 4k playlist.

This move by YouTube really ups the game...I am delighted to see the cap come off but wonder how many people will really benefit who using older screens and poor connections....I am referring to internet users in some parts of the UK or a start

youtube

Gocek, TURKEY -  Avante Media (UK) and LMS Digital Media (Turkey) plan to bring the awesome power of video marketing to the prestige Turkish marine industry. The companies expect to start filming Bodrum Boatbuilders on 19th August.

The Video News Release (VNR) service will increase profitabilty by producing and delivering across the internet high quality video content to reach carefully targeted global audiences.

Innovative video will exploit the immediacy and impact of Google, YouTube, Newswires, Google Display Network and Social Media channels. But clients will be able to use the expertly shot footage in scores of other ways to promote their products and services.

The unique collaboration involves  film maker/producer Gavin Hillmedia relations consultant George Dearsley and digital media marketing consultant Jonathan Bowker, offering a structured route to market for Turkish superyacht builders by leveraging the potential of web, broadcast and print communications to build links with international media, marine companies and consumers.

Jonathan Bowker, digital media marketing consultant, based in the exclusive Turkish marine centre of Gocek said “Superyacht builders, marinas and marine services companies will be the first to benefit from this exciting initiative.”

"The idea of Turkish marine companies using video for marketing is still relatively new. But the internet is a powerful proven tool for reaching customers quickly and dynamically.

"YouTube is now the world’s second largest search engine on the web, after Google, with monthly pageviews of 5.3 billion (according to comScore June 2009).

"Companies can post their video content to YouTube or other sites and send people a link to the content, hoping it becomes viral. But for marine companies serving high net worth individuals that simply isn't good enough.

Mr Bowker, who represents leading internet marketing companies YachtWorld & Boats.com and PitchEngine  added:  "Companies need to maintain their profile and deliver their media content with the same care and attention that they apply to their exceptional products and services. Quality is key.

"Outsourcing their video production, management and distribution to a team of international media experts, allows Turkish superyacht builders companies access to the same facilities as the global news networks but within their budgets.

"With this service Turkish superyacht builders will be highlighted every time someone searches the internet for related keywords or search terms.

"After two years of market research, we are proud to be in a position to assist with increasing the global exposure of Turkish superyacht builders and marinas. With our production team and powerful online network, combined with over 30 years of media relations experience, we are confident we can deliver worldwide awareness of today's Turkish marine industry leaders.”

Wed, 21 Jul 2010 11:26:40 -0700 About Youtube Marketing Strategy http://maritimemedia.eu/about-youtube-marketing-strategy http://maritimemedia.eu/about-youtube-marketing-strategy

youtube

YouTube is a video sharing website where people can upload their videos and share them with the world. It has built so much hype that it has become the largest video sharing website in history. With so much exposure that can be given to your business or website from YouTube, marketers are using it as a way to gain visitors and customers from it.

Uploading videos into YouTube that advertise or promote your product/service is pretty traditional marketing practice nowadays. However, the best part is that you can include a link back to your website from the video page or put it within the video clip to get more exposure back to your business.

Viral videos have become the new marketing strategy for YouTube. These videos are great for creating buzz on your business and have proven quite successful from past marketers. Making a viral video is all about exceptional videos and good connections. If you have these two elements, then creating a video that will go viral is much easier and quicker.

The marketing strategy of YouTube is to have a mass amount of YouTube users at your disposal to generate hype and activity within the video clip page. The more connections you have with top publishers and social media users, the easier it is to make a video go viral through the help of such entities. The hyping process for most viral videos is artificial so creating them is all about having numbers and connections.

YouTube has become a big marketing operation for businesses and there are even entrepreneurs who are creating marketing agencies just to help other businesses gain exposure from YouTube using viral video strategies. With so much exposure you can gain from a single video clip, YouTube is hard to ignore and has become a part of every business marketing plan.

Inspired by the success of yacht building in Antalya, the district of Manavgat aims to build an organized industrial zone specializing solely in yacht production, a first in Turkey. A committee including governmental and regional authorities came together last week to discuss the feasibility of the project. The plan is to build the zone on an area of 500,000 square meters

Following Antalya’s success as a leading center for yacht production and maintenance, the province’s district of Manavgat is now hoping to make a name for itself in the sector.

Already proud of being one of Turkey’s capital for tourism, the southern province of Antalya and its environs are now looking to make the area a world leader in other economic sectors.

Following Antalya’s success in yacht production and maintenance, the province’s district of Manavgat is also hoping to make a name for itself in the sector.

Manavgat is well placed to host a specialized yacht production center with its seaside location, sound infrastructure and sufficient equity capital, both from its own resources and from the surrounding districts. The district further has a marine high school with two specialty areas: yacht production and captainship-yacht management.

After experiencing six years of difficulties in attempting to land an organized industrial zone solely reserved for yacht production and maintenance, Manavgat has recently taken important concrete steps to construct such facilities.

A committee including governmental and regional authorities came together last week to discuss the feasibility of the project. After being approved by the Antalya Governorship and the Undersecretariat of Maritime Affairs, the project has now been sent to the Industry Ministry for approval.

The facilities, meanwhile, should be completed within two years.

Speaking to the Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review, Dr. Şükrü Vural, chairman of the Manavgat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that despite the high potential of the region, there are only eight plants engaged in small-scale yacht maintenance in Manavgat. According to the new shore and environment regulation, these plants, however, must soon be removed.

“The yachting firms in Antalya’s organized industrial zone are working at full capacity. We need to extend this capacity into nearby districts, and Manavgat is among the most favorable ones,” Vural said.

With planned construction on an area of 500,000 square meters, the Manavgat yachting industrial zone will only specialize in yacht production and maintenance unlike other industrial zones in Turkey, while also benefiting from all the advantages given to such zones.

Contribution to the economy

Noting that regional and governmental organizations have been supporting this project, Ramazan Taş, head of the Manavgat Yacht Production Association, said 30 firms from Antalya and Istanbul have already taken part in the project, which can accommodate up to 50 production and maintenance plants.

Highlighting that a project that only includes yachting firms will be a first in Turkey, Taş said the only other examples were in Italy and France.

The project will inject $30 million into the national economy and will employ between 7,000 and 8,000 people at both the technical and management levels.

Noting the increased employment that will be created by the project, Vural said there would be opportunities for the students at Manavgat Maritime High School, who will easily find jobs with their technical training and hands-on experiences in the industrial zone.

Agreeing with Vural, Ahmet Erol, head of the Antalya Chamber of Sea Trade, further said the Manavgat Yachting Industrial Zone would be a sector leader in the eastern Mediterranean region, as well as the area surrounding the Caspian Sea.

“With a capacity of 500 yachts, the project will definitely take Turkey’s yachting sector to the top level in a few years,” said Erol.

According to data obtained from the local authorities, the project was delayed for some time because a 1 million-Turkish-Lira payment must first be made for the site of the proposed project.

Although they have not yet paid the required amount , Taş said the project was not delayed, adding that they were waiting for approval from the Industry Ministry before proceeding.

Others, meanwhile, said the project was delayed for six years because area hoteliers wanted the 500,000-square-meter site for hotel construction.

Both Vural and Taş, however, said this claim was not true, adding that they were working in coordination with the authorities and tourism authorities, who are well aware that the publicity the region receives because of its famous yacht production would also benefit the tourism sector.

Mastervolt is going to make life easier for yacht builders. Digital Switching has taken its next step in evolution with the introduction of Mastervolt AC and DC digital switching. Embedded with Masterbus communication software it will be possible to manage the entire electrical onboard system.

For the first time power generation and power distribution work with one standard.
Digital Switching is the preferred solution for yacht builders because it enables them to reduce significantly on cables (less weight & space), complexity (less components) and failures (less connections).

The Masterbus CANbus communication protocol offers on top of that multiple extra benefits.

Hearing that Yannis Mitsopoulos in the Athens office of Ocean Independence has signed the 48.85m motor yacht El Chris for sale, I call for more details of this yacht’s fascinating history and Yannis doesn’t disappoint.

She was built and launched in Bremen in 1960 at Lurssen Werft, Germany, for the German Navy as a Type 140 Jaguar class Fast Attack Craft. She is constructed of wood and was named 13292 S-22 Dommel. In 1974 she was decommissioned and later sold. Between 1981 and 1983 she was completely rebuilt as a superyacht including new 1400hp Deutz engines and in 1983 she was re-launched as Lina III.

Sold again in 1985, she was refitted and renamed El Chris. The 1985-1986 refit included a lengthening of 4.3m from 44.5m to 48.85m. Wooden/titanium frames were used for the hull and the superstructure above deck is built out of aluminium. In 2005 further refit work and updating was also performed.

El Chris boasts two saloons, a separate dining area, alfresco dining on the upper deck and a large sundeck. Accommodation is for 14 guests in a master suite, VIP cabin, a double and four twins and, with a cruising speed of 14 knots, she’s asking €3.3 million.

El Chris is listed at boatinternational.com: View this superyacht’s media and specifications

Classic Motor Yacht for Sale

Classic Motor Yacht for Sale

Description/Condition

One of only fifty yachts worldwide to be included in the prestigious Yacht Club de Monaco’s Belle Classe, Romola epitomises their values of passion, heritage, elegance and excellence. Built by Camper & Nicholson in 1903 she captures the essence of England’s Belle Epoque and remains one of the most beautiful yachts afloat today.

Accommodation on Motor Yacht Romola

Completely refurbished over a period of 20 years, the careful preservation and sympathetic restoration of original features combined with traditionally handcrafted woodwork have created an interior full of character. Teak, oak and cherry panelling, polished brass and period furnishings combine to lend a warmth and charm unique to vessels of this period. Divided into two separate areas of accommodation, the Main Saloon and Master Cabin are located aft while the two double Guest Cabins are situated midships. All accommodation is ensuite and benefits from air conditioning.

History of Motor Yacht Romola In 1903 the Wright brothers flew their first successful aeroplane, the Ford Motor Company was established, Edward VII was proclaimed Emperor of India and Romola was launched on 16th June by Camper & Nicholson at their Gosport yard.

Commissioned by a Mr. Anthony A Sanderson, Romola was handed over to her new owner two weeks later where she was joined by three deck hands, one engineer, one steward, one cook, her captain and six tonnes of coal for her steam engine.

Romola’s longest journey under Mr. Sanderson’s command was a cruise of the Baltic in 1908, covering 1568 miles and using 25 tonnes of coal.

In 1909 he set off once more for a cruise round Britain, departing from Dover and reaching as far North as Fort William before cutting through the Caledonian Canal to the East coast, Edinburgh and down again to Gosport, all of which is documented in detail in her 1909 log book which can be seen in more detail on our website.

Mr. Sanderson’s adventurous spirit left a legacy in the shape of the Romola Cup. Given to the Royal Cruising Club in 1909 the cup is still annually presented to the Club Member who has shown the greatest long distance cruising ability under the most difficult conditions. In

1912 Romola returned to her makers to have her obsolete steam engine replaced with latest petrol and paraffin engine. Shortly afterwards she was sold to the Earl of Morton a member of the highly prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes where she caught the eye of the Commodore, Sir Ralph St. Gore Bt, who persuaded the Earl to part with her. She remained his property until 1922 when she was returned to her builders for a refit for her new owner, power boat racer Fred May.

The First World War marked the end of this era of opulence and by the end of World War Two new materials and techniques were in use such as waterproof glues and plywood, allowing cheaper boats to be built. Romola, like so many of her kind, became too expensive and inconvenient to maintain and was passed from owner to owner becoming more and more dilapidated until she was discovered by her present owner in 1985 in a terrible state in Dunstaffnage Bay, Scotland.

Romola was brought from the West Coast of Scotland, through the canal she once travelled through in her youth as a steam yacht, to Leith in Edinburgh. Extensive renovations spanning 20 years have assured her place among the finest vintage yachts afloat today.

Fri, 14 May 2010 23:42:36 -0700 Marmaris Yacht Charter Show reveals the luxurious side of the blue cruise coast http://maritimemedia.eu/marmaris-yacht-charter-show-reveals-the-luxur http://maritimemedia.eu/marmaris-yacht-charter-show-reveals-the-luxur
CHRIS DRUM BERKAYA - JANE TUNA AKATAY

Marmaris Boat Show reveals the luxurious side of the blue cruise coast

Renowned as a popular mass tourist destination, this week Marmaris reveals its chic, sophisticated and wealthy side by hosting one of the most prestigious boat shows in the Mediterranean. The town is not only in the heart of ‘Blue Cruise Country,’ positioned between Didim and Antalya, but also, because it is readily accessible by road and an easy journey from Dalaman Airport, it is popular with agents, boat owners and brokers.

The 29th year of the show brings together some examples of top range vessels – from classics like petite MY Romola to the sleek, elegant winner of the 2009 Bodrum Cup, SY Daima. Some have been around for a while and others, like steel-hulled Diva from Aegean Yachting in Bodrum, are fresh off the boat yards.

In the search for ever more luxurious and high specification boats, brokers from many countries visit the Marmaris show together with Genoa and Poros, to learn firsthand about what’s happening in the world of luxury motor sailers, mega yachts, elegant gulets and vertigo inducing multi floored motor cruisers.

The area around the main harbor of Marmaris is home this week to 77 of these impressive boats. “This is a really good turnout,” said Arzu Diramalı, while surveying the scene with obvious pride. As the commandant of the Marmaris International Yacht Club, the main hosts for this week, she has an important role to play in making sure everything goes smoothly.

Marmaris Mayor Ali Acar announced the opening of the show in a speech given in the town’s historic castle, the venue for the first party of the week. Its ramparts stand high and solid above the resort, reminding everyone that Marmaris has been around for a long time and has a fine nautical history beyond package tourism.

Parties and networking are essentially what this week is all about. Brokers assiduously hurry from one boat to another during the day, clutching clipboards and gathering information that can be passed onto their clients and fellow brokers.

Beverley Parsons, doyenne of American Yacht Brokers explains why she makes a point of visiting the boat shows. “I have contact with more than a hundred brokers at the top end of the market in the United States who rely on me to report back to them. I visit Genoa, Poros and then Marmaris as there is nothing like seeing a boat and understanding how it feels.” Another agent adds, “Our clients are parting with a significant amount of money, so this is an absolutely essential part of our job.”

For Tim Hakins, an agent from Melbourne, Australia and director of idesign Travel, Marmaris is his second festival this year. “This way of doing business is very effective,” he said. He was not the only agent from the south, but like all the others is deeply concerned by the lack of a Turkish tourism office in Australia, as a very useful one closed five years ago. All insist one is needed badly by agents who want to sell Turkey as a destination.

Talking at the cocktail party on the opening night, representatives from Barbaros Yachting, Bodrum said, like many other charter companies, they were making the move up market with their cabin cruises so felt it was essential to come present themselves at the Marmaris Yacht Charter Show for the first time.

These days more and more boats are truly extravagant, with the accommodation of a five star hotel and so much room it is hard to imagine being afloat – apart from the occasional sound of lapping waves. In some cases, less is more, as three, four and five cabin boats are becoming popular.

Conspicuous luxury has a part to play too, with Jacuzzis, underwater light shows and statues highlighted by the obvious touches of an interior designer on display here in Marmaris. While every single one of these boats is very much at the luxury end of the market, a few stand out as being unique.

Some boats are part of a fleet owned by large companies, such as the ultimate professionals Aegean Yachting, which has more than 30 years experience in the industry. Others are single, beloved, unique, dreams-come-true. A case in point is the “Queen of Datça,” an impressive wooden sailing gulet measuring 35 meters with a 1,000 square meter sail. Dutch owners Anthonie and Elly de Bruin see their magnificent creation as a “deeply emotional and personal investment.”

Having watched over the entire building program of their gulet, they see their magnificent creation more like “their child,” and even take the analogy further, saying, "It was longer than a pregnancy!" In addition to their genuine love for the boat, Anthonie’s business background in computer technology means that virtually every gadget known to man adds to the otherwise understated luxury.

Size isn’t everything it seems. Originally built in the Gosport (United Kingdom) yard of Camper and Nicholson in 1903, Classic Motor Yacht Romola, sailing under the Red Ensign and captained by Neil Roberts, stands out for being one of the smallest, if not the smallest in the show (26 meters in length with a beam of 4.5 meters.) However, its fascinating history and loving restoration means it is now one of only 50 yachts in the world to be included in the prestigious Yacht Club de Monaco’s Belle Classe. She “epitomizes the essence of England’s Belle Epoque.”

Her owner has completely refurbished her over the last twenty years, having found her in a terrible state in Dunstafanage Bay, Scotland. The sensitive attention to detail makes the boat a floating stately home in miniature, but underneath the Edwardian elegance, they now purr two high tech and thoroughly modern diesel engines rather that a coal-fueled boiler.

It is now expected that MY Romola will earn her keep by taking guests out on charters. Stewardess Linda said they moved from Cannes on the west side of the Mediterranean since the coast in Turkey was so much nicer, and the workmanship of the technical support there was equally good and of better value.

All the boats in the show host parties and lunches for agents. These events provide an opportunity to see and feel the elegance of the boat as well as a chance to savor gastronomic delicacies made by chefs in state of the art kitchens. On Monday evening, MS Papa Joe was the scene of the Istanbul owner Yücel Özalp’s (director of Blue Point yachting) cocktail party. There was also a chance to tour the modern sleek accommodation and see the cabins, which had an almost Asian feel with a minimalist decor, and given the delicious sushi on the table, it was no surprise to find the chef is an expert in Asian food.

One of the jewels in Marmaris’s marine crown this week is the imposing SY Daima. At 37 meters she has the added kudos of winning the Bodrum Cup in 2009 under the command of her New Zealand Captain Stephen Johnson. Built in Antalya by Arkin Pruva Argos Yachts under RINA supervision, her amazing rigging and sail investment alone may stimulate a new level of excellence in other yachts that compete in the Bodrum Cup - time will tell.

Meanwhile, the Bodrum Cup Pennant hangs proudly in the salon, and when asked if Daima will be racing this year, the Captain says he, “has a duty to take Daima back this year to compete - and hopefully to win again.” His blue eyes are laughing, but all this is a very serious business.

Daima’s chef, Koran Şakar is beaming with pride. Having won a round of the yacht chef’s cookery competitions, he shows everyone the photos of his lamb dish. It is clear that the Marmaris Boat Show has something to offer everyone involved in the marine sector.

Marmaris Municipality Public Relations representative, Sedat Kirt expressed thanks to all the sponsors, including the municipality, Koç Allianz, UPS, Alpet and Yachtworld Charters, who made the impressive show possible.

It has come a long way since the original show exhibited three boats. It also increases awareness throughout the yacht charter world the importance of Marmaris and the Turkish coast as an unparalleled cruising coast and sailing center.
